I'm Leaving
And why I've been so silent here these past weeks
No, I’m not leaving the hobby, nor Substack, but time has been short for a while.
Ok, so ripping off the band aid, I’m moving countries from Colombia to Spain.
By the time this article is published I’ll most likely be flying to Madrid, with my final city of residence undisclosed for safety purposes, I’ve read enough Watches of Espionage to know that full disclosure is a bad idea, independent of collection size and value.
Now its not easy to put the last 9 years of your life in two bags, a carry-on and a backpack, but us Venezuelans got used to it in the past 8 years. Add to this medical appointments, nothing serious, just yearly check-ups; visits from friends and the ever hectic last quarter rush in my job, and is easy to see why I was left with little to no time nor energy to write these articles.
I hope you can excuse me for that.
Regarding the why I am leaving, this decision was made at the end of my last trip to Spain, bear in mind I am a Spanish citizen, have been there multiple times, have family living there, had enough money in the bank, and most importantly always wanted to live there, therefore it all boiled down to simply taking the leap.
I am going to miss Colombia, but to tell you the truth, despite it serving as a home for my family the past 9 yars, having made many amazing friends, experienced some of the best moments, and made some excellent memories; I don’t feel attached to this country in any way, shape or form.
As I told a friend recently, I appreciate Colombia, and it will certainly be a nice chapter of my life, but I’m not fond of it.
Ever since I bought the ticket the image of Cassian Andor walking toward his U-Wing while the track Past/Present/Future Suite plays in my head on repeat. The vision is not lost on me, as it signifies the leap to the next adventure, in this case a big one, and hopefully one with a happier ending, maybe finding my Bix in the process.
I want to thank you for your patience guys, I cannot promise it won’t happen again, but I can promise that I’ll kep loving watches and be forever grateful for this blog and community.
Pivoting towards more watch centered stuff and updates
I helped my brother pick a watch, in this cae a Timex Expedition Solar with 100m WR, I left him some basic strap changing tools, as well s a strap or two, if he wants to try it out.
In my recent trip to Aruba I managed to establish a nice relationship with the sales rep at the Omega Boutique, to the degree that they gifted me a catalog, and the fact that it was in Aruba just makes it extra special to me despite it being an outdated one.
Lastly among the small contingent of watches I’ll be taking with me, my grandpas’s day-date is included, and of course my trusty Certina.
Next week, or this Sunday, depending on how the settling in process goes, a peek behind the curtain on how I write these
Well guy here I go, wish me luck, and last, but not least… Plus Ultra.

Change is good, especially when you are the one to initiate it! Embrace your new path, be safe.
Best of luck on the move, travel safe, and looking forward to hearing from you once in Spain.
